In Home Food Preservation 101, we will provide a general overview of our most-used food preservation methods: Canning, dehydrating, freezing, and fermenting. We will spend time digging into the science behind food safety & preservation, including an understanding of the c. botulinum bacterium and how to ensure your foods are safe and healthful. We will discuss food preservation equipment, including tips for prioritizing purchases for beginners, and which foods pair best with which methods. We will save plenty of time for participant questions!
Course participants will walk away from this course with an empowered understanding of the science behind food preservation, and enough knowledge to prioritize equipment and preservation methods best suited to their family. We will not practice preserving foods in this introductory course.
